Our first mountaineering location is Rabun Bald. Located in Georgia, this Georgia mountaineering location is the second highest point in the state. Sitting at 4,696 feet, this Georgia mountaineering location overlooks the Nantahala Forest, the Smokies, the Highlands, and Sky Valley. There are three trails that will take you to the top of Rabun Bald; the North Bartram Trail, the Three Forks Trail, and the South Bartram Trail. You can visit this Georgia mountaineering location at any time of the year, but the best time is in the fall.
The second location on this list is another Georgia mountaineering area! Sitting at 4,685 feet, it is only a few feet shorter than Rabun Bald. The trail is not marked well, the terrain is pretty steep, and the area is remote. Thus, this Georgia mountaineering location is perfect for advanced mountaineers! The best time to visit this Georgia mountaineering location is during the winter or early spring. Due to the canes, this trail will be difficult to navigate during the summer.
Located in Florida, Britton Hill only sits at 345 feet. While it is extremely small, height wise, it is very wide. Britton Hill is the perfect location for beginner mountaineers, or mountaineers who are looking for a quick trip. Britton Hill is located within a small forest. Thus, the landscape and terrain in Britton Hill looks like something you would find in Michigan instead of Florida. The best time to visit Britton Hill is during the winter.
Sitting at 5,729 feet, Mount Rogers is the highest point in Virginia! This remote mountain is home to some uneven terrain, along with dense forests, blossoming with various flora and fauna. This untouched land is always home to some wild ponies! To reach the top of Mount Rogers, mountaineer either Massie Gap or Elk Garden Trailhead. The best time to mountaineer Mount Rogers is from late spring to fall.
Our last mountaineering location is Cheaha Mountain. Located in Alabama, Cheaha Mountain is the highest point in Alabama. Sitting at a little over 2,400 feet, Cheaha Mountain may not be the tallest mountain you have ever mountaineered, but it is perfect for mountaineers who want to sharpen their skills and gain some experience. The best trail on Cheaha Mountain is the Rock Garden. But, make sure to get to Rock Garden early, because it is an extremely popular trail. While you can mountaineer Cheaha Mountain all year, be careful during the summer, because Cheaha Mountain is full of poison ivy and snakes.
